Significant Growth in Guangdong’s Home Appliance Exports in 2023: A Surge of 8% Year-on-Year

Despite the sluggish growth in the global economy, Guangdong’s traditional industry powerhouse—the home appliance sector—shone brightly in exports in 2023. Overcoming numerous challenges, the industry recorded a significant export volume of 306.19 billion yuan, marking an 8% year-on-year increase. This growth outpaced the overall export growth rate of Guangdong by 5.5 percentage points, demonstrating the sector’s robust vitality.

Home appliances have always been one of Guangdong’s primary export commodities. In 2023, the export of home appliances from Guangdong accounted for 5.6% of the province’s total export value, up 0.3 percentage points from the previous year. Remarkably, the sector contributed 17.2% to the overall export growth of Guangdong, playing a crucial role in stabilizing the province’s export growth.

Among the various home appliance products, televisions were the most popular. In 2023, Guangdong exported televisions worth 66.05 billion yuan, a rapid increase of 15.9%, accounting for 21.6% of the total home appliance exports and making it the largest home appliance export commodity from Guangdong. During the same period, exports of air conditioners, fans, and refrigerators were 32.64 billion yuan, 22.75 billion yuan, and 21.42 billion yuan, respectively, with growth rates of 6.4%, 3.3%, and 15.5%, accounting for 10.7%, 7.4%, and 7%.

Officials from the General Administration of Customs in Guangdong stated that customs would continue to optimize the port business environment and accelerate customs clearance efficiency to support the export of Guangdong’s home appliances to the fullest extent.

With the continuous expansion of global market demand, the Guangdong home appliance industry is expected to maintain a stable growth trend, contributing even more to the economic development of Guangdong and China at large.
