Guangdong Embarks on a “New” Industrial Journey with Digital Technology Fueling Dynamic Energy

Industry is the lifeline of the national economy. New industrialization is the path to becoming a powerful nation, crucial for strategic planning and long-term development. In November this year, Guangdong held a conference to accelerate high-quality new industrialization and build a strong manufacturing province, emphasizing new industrialization as a key task in Guangdong’s modernization effort, aiming to create a new landscape for high-quality manufacturing.

Digital technology acts as an accelerator for new industrialization. Guangdong Mobile takes on the responsibility, injecting vibrant energy into high-quality industrial development with technological innovation, laying a solid foundation for new industrialization, and elevating it to new heights. At the 2023 World 5G Conference, two cases submitted by Guangdong Mobile, “5G Fully Connected Factory for High-Quality Development of Chinese Manufacturing” and “Zero-Carbon Smart Factory Based on 5G Kite Network,” were selected as “Top 10 5G Application Cases of 2023.”

Moving towards “intelligence,” creating a 5G fully connected factory involves real-time adjustment of production lines based on order demands, transparent and visible data for “man-machine-material,” and cost reduction and efficiency improvement in production through 5G+AI quality inspection. In Huawei’s Southern Factory at Songshan Lake, 5G has become one of the most important driving forces in production.

As a representative of China’s electronics manufacturing industry, Huawei’s Southern Factory at Songshan Lake, a typical discrete manufacturing enterprise, collaborates with Guangdong Mobile to explore new industrialization paths. They have built a dual-band 5G network at 2.6GHz+4.9GHz, advancing the application of technologies like 5G LAN, achieving ultra-dense networking, and high-precision indoor positioning with 5G.

The 5G private network enables continuous operation of AGV carts in the factory, automating the delivery of over 1600 parts from the raw material warehouse to production areas and finished goods warehouses. It also provides clear visibility of inspectors, vehicles, and equipment trajectories and inspection points in the backend system. 5G+AI quality inspection automates defect inspection, reducing repetitive labor and changing the traditional monitoring methods.

Relying on the 5G private network, Huawei’s Southern Factory at Songshan Lake has not only achieved real-time data collection, making all production information visible and controllable, but importantly, 5G has increased the connectivity rate of production line equipment, transitioning more devices from offline to online for better big data analysis and preventative maintenance. Currently, the factory has gradually implemented 16 5G applications, moving 5G from a peripheral aid to a core production role, demonstrating a scalable exemplary effect.

Moving towards “green,” supporting the construction of a zero-carbon smart factory represents a shift towards green and low-carbon industrial development. Continuously improving the green manufacturing system and promoting a comprehensive green transformation of economic and social development has become a consensus. Guangdong Bump Recycling Technology Co., Ltd., a leading domestic waste battery recycling company with seven production bases globally, collaborates with Guangdong Mobile in Foshan to build a zero-carbon smart factory based on a 5G kite network.

The “zero-carbon factory” aims for net-zero carbon emissions through technological energy-saving and emission-reduction measures in manufacturing. In recent years, Bump Recycling has been dedicated to building zero-carbon factories. Guangdong Mobile focuses on its strategic development needs, assisting in creating a zero-carbon smart factory based on a 5G kite network.

In the high-end lithium battery material digital factory, Guangdong Mobile has implemented the 5G private network, developing over ten applications including 5G+ precise temperature control, 5G+ predictive maintenance, and 5G+PLC (industrial control equipment), thoroughly integrating factory data flow and supporting smart and green production.

By deeply integrating 5G private network technology into the enterprise production system and aligning it with enterprise needs, the project supports comprehensive zero-carbon energy, 5G digital parks, 5G digital twins, process control, and flexible scheduling. This has helped Bump Recycling’s six bases and nine factories achieve SGS’s PAS 2060 carbon neutrality certification, leading globally in zero-carbon energy control processes.

As a main force in building a network powerhouse, digital China, and smart society, Guangdong Mobile will continue to work with the industrial chain to explore the deep integration of informatization and industrialization, transforming digital transformation experience into standard solutions, and revitalizing the manufacturing industry with new vitality.
